There’s been a lot of talk of bed bugs on the rise in the United States, so I went about doing some research.  Not a lot of people have come across bed bugs, but if you haven’t, it’s not pleasant being bitten.  They’re sometimes mistaken for baby cockroaches or ticks.  Bed bugs have a flat body and are between 1.5mm (juvenile) to 7mm (adult).  Since they feed on your blood, their backs turn darker red when feed, brighter for juveniles.

This month, September, is declared as Mold Awareness Month by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  It’s a good time to be looking around your house for any problem spots, or take extra precautions when shampooing your carpet.

Mold can build up due to:

  • water leaks.
  • damped hard surface floors, counters, and upholstery.
  • condensation around windows, walls, pipes, and floors.
  • not providing circulating air after a carpet shampoo.

Find ways to prevent these issues first before it costs a fortune after the fact.

Fans Don’t Cool Rooms Down

So it’s hot outside, you go inside and turn the fan on.  It’s instant relief from the heat.  Did the fan cool the room down?  No.  You feel cool because your perspiration cooled you down.  Your body sweats when exposed to the fans blowing air.
